Ask yourself these questions;
What colours are showing at the front of my house? (Both paint and garden colours)
Are there too many different and conflicting colours?
Do the colours bring out the character of my home?
Do the colours blend in and work well together?
What colours are prominent on my street?
Then ask yourself;
What colours can I change / do I want to change?
What colours would blend in and work well together?
What colours would suit the front of my house?
Would I like these colours?
Next,
When painting the front of the house, consider;
One colour to paint the main parts of the front of the house
One colour to paint the secondary parts of the front of the house – i.e. the features and highlights (fence, frames, columns etc.)
Optional – One unique bright colour to paint the door
Remember, less is more.
Tip – If you’re adding a new roof or painting the old one, consider how this colour will blend in with the colours you’ll choose to paint the front of the house. It’s best to have them all blend in and complement each other harmoniously.
As we just covered, have a look around online and at other homes similar to yours to see what colours work well together and what will appeal to both you and potential buyers.
Optional add to colours
Tip – If your home has lots of unique, traditional and finer features that can be evenly split up into pairs, instead of using just one colour, you can add two colours to paint the homes features and highlights.
The colours however must complement each other seamlessly.
The tip here is that, one colour is used for the bulk of the features and highlights and then the second colour is used for the finer parts of those features and highlights.
What if you can’t decide on colours?
Take some photos of the front of your home and have a chat with someone at your local paint supplier or hardware store to get some tips and good colour combination ideas.
Alternatively, you can ask a colour consultant.
Before you purchase any paint though, be sure to consult a paint expert or specialist to make sure it will suit your application and last.
It’s also worth noting that you’ll be much better off spending that little bit extra on good quality paint.
A job done correctly only needs to be done once.
