What happens after a property contract exchange?

From exchange of contracts it usually takes four to eight weeks until settlement.

This is where both yours and the buyer’s solicitors or conveyancers are doing the background checks like enquiries, searches and document preparation.

Things like survey and drainage diagrams will be examined, government departments and the local council contacted and mortgage finance and documentation organised.

This is where you will also start organising the move.

If you need to hire a truck, trailer or need to book in removalists, it would be a good idea to book in everything required way ahead of time.

Don’t forget other moving items that will make it easier to relocate – Things like tape, boxes, newspaper and wrapping.

It’s also a good idea to get in touch with utility providers like water, electricity, gas, phone and internet to let them know you’re moving.
